Images of Finland
Education in Finland is completely free up until University level. All pupils recieve a free dinner in school. Pupils start formals school at age 7 and before this attend Kindergarten. No formal reading or writing starts until 7years of age. There is no formal testing of pupils in Finland up until age 16. There is no homework as the-belief is that children come to school to work and go home to be with their family and take part in other activities which provide learning in social skills etc. There are no inspectors in Finland and schools are not in competition with each other. Majority of pupils walk to school on their own from age 7 upwards. Their winter lasts from December to April with temperatures as low as -30. Children must go outside each day to play and must always be appropriately dressed. The following photos give a brief glimpse of Finland.
