Cumann na mBunscol One Wall Handball Tournament
The school's boys' and girls' handball doubles teams made the trip to St. Ciaran's College today to compete in the above tournament. Playing against pupils from Ballygawley, Carrickmore, Drumduff & Glencull, our teams played very well indeed. Taking into consideration the fact that the boys' team consisted of 2 x P5 pupils and the girls' team of 2 x P6 pupils, the school should certainly be in a strong position to challenge for honours next year.
The boys' team played well in the group stages which saw them qualify for the semi-final where they met an exceptionally strong Drumduff team. The boys played very well and tried their best, but on the day had to accept that they were second best to the eventual competition winners.
In the girls' competition, similarly the Beragh girls played very well indeed in the group stages which saw them qualify for the semi-final. There they met a strong Carrickmore pair but dug deep to claim victory and their place in the final. There they met the Drumduff team and over two games, both pairs tried their best to gain the upper hand on their opponents, the Drumduff team winning the first game and Beragh the second. However as agreed at the beginning of the competition, the aggregate score over both games was counted up and after some score checking, the Drumduff girls claimed the title by a single point - small margins indeed! Still the Beragh girls arrived back to the school with silver county medals, something they can be very proud of.
