Chinese New Year Celebrations
Happy Chinese New Year!
Our pupils in P6and7 have been studying Chinese for nearly 2 years now thanks to the Chinese teachers provided by the South West College in Omagh. We are also partnered with a school in China-Zouzhou Foreign Language School and have had its Principal Mrs Lui visit us in December. It was then fitting that our pupils had the opportunity to celebrate Chinese New Year on 8th February.
As part of the Chinese New Year celebrations, P6 & 7 travelled to South West College Dungannon today. There the children got the opportunity to experience first-hand some of the traditions associated with the Chinese culture. From making lanterns and lucky envelopes (which included some Chinese money), to having the opportunity to paint some characters of the Chinese language and play some of their games, it was a morning which was greatly enjoyed by all the boys and girls.
The tables where the different activities took place were manned by the Chinese tutors who are visiting the primary schools this year. They also got to meet again their own weekly tutor Guo, who helped the children make their lucky envelopes.
2016 is the Year of the Monkey, and the actual New Year celebrations were held worldwide yesterday (Monday 8th February). So Happy Chinese New Year to one and all!
Also a big thank you to the Parents’ Association who covered the cost of the bus to Dungannon, it was greatly appreciated.
