Accelerated Reader has been introduced to the school this year in classes P3-P7. It has been wonderfully successful, and has seen a marked improvement in the interest of pupils reading for enjoyment.
At its heart, Accelerated Reader (AR) is simple. A child reads a book, takes an online quiz, and gets immediate feedback. Students respond to regular feedback, and are in turn motivated to make progress with their reading skills.
This morning we had our first Accelerated Reader Awards Assembly, where the children who successfully achieved their termly targets were recognised for the wonderful efforts which they had made. Congratulations to all the pupils who received awards, and hopefully it will also inspire those who fell just short of their targets, to meet those next term when we return after Easter.
A special word of congratulations to the 3 children who read over one million words each, and so became the school’s first pupils to become members of the exclusive Millionaires' Club. Well done Folks!
It would be remiss at this point not to recognise the contribution of our wonderful Parents’ Association, which has been very supportive of the introduction of AR this year. Their financial support of the AR programme will hopefully help the children in our school to make continued improvement in their reading skills.
